To facilitate the application, the transfer silver leaf is pressed against a tissue paper wider than the leaf.
The transfer leaf is easier to handle and this reason it is often preferred by beginners.
Another advantage is given by the fact that where there are currents of air the transfer leaf will not fly away.
The transfer silver leaf is suitable only for water size gilding and not for water gilding and therefore it can not be burnished.
As a result of the embossing left by the pressure of the tissue paper, the transfer leaf does not allow to obtain a perfect brilliance.
The silver leaf needs protection because it is subject to oxidation.
